Speech

The goal of our speech club is to train students in public speaking with an emphasis on putting God first.  ROC utilizes competition to achieve this goal.  "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17  We find that competition motivates students to work harder, which ultimately enables them to hone their communication skills more effectively and efficiently.  Other benefits of competition include; learning how to impact people with words, learning how to compete with honesty and integrity, learning responsibility, learning the importance of character, and learning how to win and lose with grace.  In addition to those benefits, the tournaments are just plain FUN for the kids!  If you were to ask any of our students what their favorite part of this activity was, they would answer with an enthusiastic, "The tournaments!"

ROC is structured similar to a co-op with member families all participating to help our students grow in their communication skills. Club Meetings takeplace on Thursdays at Chisholm Baptist Church in Rockwall. Debate Club meets 1:00 - 2:50 pm. Speech Club meets 3:00- 5:00 pm.

Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled, so you don’t miss out on important announcements or valuable training time. Our coaches are all participating parent volunteers and we will want to respect their commitment by honoring the times we set for them to be there.

Each Club meeting includes some instruction, practice and critiquing. This is accomplished through active participation from BOTH parents and students. Parents are required to be present with their children at club meetings and must participate in helping coach all member students.
